Vertical farming is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers. It often incorporates controlled-environment agriculture, which aims to optimize plant growth, and soilless farming techniques such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics.

Although women are major producers of food crops they lack behind men in terms of access to land and productive resources, income from land, education, financial services, information and the ability to share and learn. ICT can empower women to close these gaps.
